Try these three activities to get more out of life!

Does your exercise routine need a shake up? As chiros, we want you to get the most out of life. Why not try something new like stand-up paddleboarding, martial arts, or indoor rock-climbing. Read on to find out more about these activities and why they are good for your body – and mind.

  1. Try stand-up paddleboarding

If you’re new to stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), the concept is pretty simple. It’s an outdoor water activity, where the participant stands (or kneels) on a long paddleboard and uses a paddle to propel forward.

It’s grown in popularity in recent years because along with being a great full-body workout that uses core strength to balance, it’s also lots of fun! You get the mental health benefits of being in nature and doing something enjoyable, as well as the health benefits of a workout. You can get what you want out of it: have a cruisy paddle at slow pace in calm waters, or a more intense workout. Why not get a few friends together and make a morning of it?

  1. Give martial arts a go!

Keen to try martial arts, but not sure where to begin? With so many types of martial arts to choose from, you can’t really go wrong. If you’re not keen on the sparring aspect, you can take up martial arts in a training capacity and still gain from the many benefits. Whether you choose Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai or Mixed Martial Arts, they all have similar benefits:

  • Self-defense
  • Mental toughness
  • Self-confidence
  • Socialising
  • Cardio workout
  • Strength workout

You never know, by stepping out of your comfort zone, you may find something you really enjoy.

  1. Head to an indoor rock-climbing centre

Indoor rock-climbing is a great way to mix things up and offers many of the health benefits of outdoor rock climbing. With indoor climbing centres popping up everywhere, it’s a great time to try it out. You can hire most of the equipment and it’s a good idea to wear loose clothing (but not baggy, because you don’t want it to get caught while you climb). Rock climbing is a low-impact workout that improves strength, balance, and endurance. It’s also great for your mental health.
