About Osteopathy Care

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy focused on the musculoskeletal system and the ability of the body to self-regulate and heal.

By encompassing osteopathic principles, osteopaths are able to provide tailored care to assist with reducing dysfunction and restoring movement in the body.

Osteopathy is one of the fifteen AHPRA regulated health care professions in Australia, along with other professions such as medicine, dentistry and nursing. The government regulates the professions via its agency, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Back 4 Life Osteopaths are also members of Osteo Australia, a peak representative body for evidence-based osteopaths, researchers, and students.

Upon initial consultation, your Osteopath will take a detailed history, followed by a hands-on assessment to understand more about your body.

From this, they are able to implement a range of techniques, which may include massage, joint mobilisation, dry needling, cupping and manipulation.

They may also provide rehab/exercise programs, education and lifestyle advice to promote long term healing.

Osteopaths work with people who present with a range of conditions such as neck pain, low back pain, tendonitis, arthritic pain, headaches, muscle strains, ligament sprains, sciatica, tennis/golfers’ elbow, shoulder complaints, disc issues, sporting related injuries, postural concerns.

Dr Jake has three years of professional experience in treating a wide range of presentations and has developed a key interest in supporting individuals with sporting and running related concerns.

Osteopaths are considered Primary Care Practitioners in Australia. This means that you do not need a referral from a GP or other healthcare professional to consult or visit a osteopath.

More and more GPs are however referring to Osteopaths via the Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Program. Patients can receive a Medicare rebate for up to five osteopathic visits per year when referred under this program.
