How to Bring Some Serenity into Your LifeBefore we jump into our tips, we want to address the elephant in the room: You’re busy. We understand. The idea of stopping even for a moment seems impossible (especially at this time of year!). Maybe even the idea of doing just one thing at a time seems out of reach. No wonder you’re frazzled. But why are you so busy? Are your days full of activities that align to your values, move you steadily towards your goals and bring you challenges and satisfaction? Or are you busy meeting everyone else’s needs and expectations? Not an easy to apply lifestyle “hack” but something to work on for the long term. You cannot (and do not have to) do it all.

And now for some easier to apply tips and tricks.

Exercise for Inner Balance:

Regular physical activity is not only fantastic for your physical health but also plays a significant role in your mental well-being. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or a heart-pounding run, find an activity you enjoy and make it a part of your routine. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week to reduce stress and promote calmness.

Manage Screen Time Mindfully:

In our digital age, it’s easy to get caught up in the endless scroll of social media or binge-watching TV shows. While technology offers numerous benefits, excessive screen time can increase stress and anxiety. Why, well the constant notifications, emails and updates keep us in a state of heightened alertness – pumping cortisol through our bodies. That heightened state is a great survival mechanism if there was anything to fight or fly from, but since we’re sure you don’t want to wrestle your laptop into submission, there’s nowhere for all that energy to go. (So – back to Point A – get some exercise.) You also know about the blue light from smart screens that disrupt your circadian rhythms. So, set boundaries for your screen time, especially before bedtime. Try to disconnect from screens at least an hour before sleep to improve your sleep quality and overall sense of calm.

Nourish Your Body, Nourish Your Mind:

What you eat directly affects your mood and energy levels. A balanced diet rich in whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins can help stabilise your blood sugar levels and provide sustained energy throughout the day. Avoid excessive caffeine and sugar, which can lead to energy crashes and increased stress. Staying hydrated with plenty of water is also essential for mental clarity and emotional balance.

Reconnect with Nature:

Spending time in nature can be incredibly calming. Whether it’s a walk in the park, a hike in the woods, sitting in your backyard, or just looking away from your computer and at the sky outside your office window the sights and sounds of the natural world have a soothing effect on the mind. Nature helps reduce stress hormones and promotes relaxation. Make an effort to incorporate outdoor activities into your routine, even if it’s just for a few minutes each day.

Chiropractic Care for Holistic Wellness:

Did you know that your spine plays a crucial role in your nervous system, which controls your body’s functions and responses? You’ve probably heard a bit about the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. These are sometimes casually referred to as the “fight and flight” and “relax and recover” systems. When your spine is out of whack it sometimes throws these systems out of balance too meaning you never get out of that always on feeling. (Back to Tip 2 – It really is all connected!) Aligning your spine correctly can improve your overall well-being, reduce stress, and enhance your body’s ability to handle stressors. And as an added bonus chiropractic adjustments are safe and non-invasive, making them an excellent choice for those seeking natural ways to bring calm into their lives.

In summary, achieving a calmer life involves a holistic approach that encompasses physical activity, mindful screen time management, proper nutrition, connecting with nature, and considering the health of your spine (give us a call on (03) 5381 1892 to make an appointment at Back 4 Life Wellness Centre for our help with this one.) And big picture – check in with yourself to make sure that all the stressors are actually worth it!  We hope you found these tips useful. If you did, why not follow us on social media for more.
